A nurse can delegate a certain task to a nursing assistant only if the task does not involve teaching, assessing and evaluating a patient’s status.

The training is usually conducted by a registered nurse and will likely last for a few weeks to months. The Red Cross training offers the advantage of learning from people who know what it’s like to respond to emergency situations and this makes the transition from theory to reality smoother. After the training is over, you will be given a test for certification. The test is comprised of a written and clinical part. The written part covers all the theories you learned in school. In the clinical part, you will be asked to perform basic care and will depend on the nurse. Many pass the test quite well as long as they listened to the basics of caring and remember to treat the patient as a person and not just another face in the hospital.
