How much training and effort does it take to become an Ultrasound Technician? And how much can you earn working as an Ultrasound Technician? These questions will be addressed in this article.

Assuming that you know what Ultrasound involves and all the varying regions of medicine that can be touched by it, we can go on to find out the answers to important questions which anyone who would like to make a living in this profession would want to know.

So what does it take to become an Ultrasound Technician? Well, first off it is good to know that licensure is not required in any state of the U.S. Therefore it might be possible under some circumstances to get on the job training. However it is generally recommended that you get formal education in the field of Sonography. Ultrasound Technicians or Sonographers can get 2 year associate’s degrees or 4 year bachelor’s degrees. Some hospital programs are also accredited. Some vocational or technical schools offer programs as well as the Armed Forces. Some of these programs prefer people who are previously experienced in healthcare professions while others will accept those who have high school diplomas. A few of these are only 1 year programs that will get you a vocational certificate. This might be an excellent and simple beginning to a promising career. And there are over 150 training programs that are actually accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. Of these, you will usually find 2 year programs that will result in an associate’s degree.

Employers seem to prefer candidates who are registered sonographers. In order to become registered you would need to have the required education, training, or work experience. Registration will involve an exam which will include physics and instrumentation. Registration will include credentials for various specialized areas of practice such as cardiovascular or nervous system and others. You will need to pass the exam for each specialized area.

It would be beneficial to have good communication skills since an Ultrasound Technician will need to need to explain what they are doing and the results to their patients. Good hand-eye coordination is also important to get high quality images.

This occupation has a lot of growth expected… about 18 percent by the year 2018. That’s much better than average. It will likely become more popular because it is safer and more cost effective than radiology or x-rays. Also they will likely develop new sonography procedures as well as find new areas of the body which can be scanned. We can probably expect to see technological advances in ultrasound equipment which will also be likely to become more cost efficient as well. Job opportunities look good especially if you have credentials in multiple specialized areas of sonography.

How much is the average Ultrasound Technician salary annually? The middle 50 percent of Ultrasound Technicians can expect to earn approximately between $52,000 and $73,000 a year while the highest 10 percent will earn more than $83,000 a year. But plan on starting in the $43,000 range.

Clinical and medical laboratory technicians perform most of the tests that detect illness and disease. Their job is vital, exciting, and never the same each day. It is also one of the fastest growing careers and there is a huge demand for qualified and trained lab techs.

A clinical and medical lab tech examines and analyzes body fluids, such as blood and urine, as well as tissue to find bacteria, microorganisms, viruses and parasites. A technician also prepares specimens for examination, match blood for transfusions, count cells, and look for abnormalities. A med lab tech also uses scientific instruments, such as, microscopes, cell counters, and automated equipment as well as computers to help them complete the tasks they are given. Technicians also maintain lab equipment and records and prepare findings to be given to doctors. A lab tech will work under the supervision of a laboratory manager, so techs need to be able to take instruction and follow directions.

A lab tech needs to have an associate degree in medical lab technology, which they can get at a community college, vocational school, or teaching hospital. Job opportunities are excellent as the number of jobs available exceed the number of applicants. Clinical and medical lab technician salary can be expected to be between $30,000 and $40,000 annually, starting out. Factors that affect how much a lab technician salary is, can be where a person lives, how much experience they have, and where they work. For example, a tech who works for a general or surgical hospital will make more income than a lab tech who works for a medical or diagnostic laboratory. There are a number of places a clinical lab tech can work. Some of these are hospital labs, doctors’ offices, medical clinics, reference laboratories, public health agencies, and industrial, pharmaceutical, or medical research labs.

A medical lab tech can generalize their practice or specialize in one field in particular. Some of the different fields a lab tech can become are cytotechnologists, histotechnicians, and phlebotomists. The different specialties of a medical lab tech also can affect a person’s income. Cytotechnologists generally make more money than phlebotomists. Some medical lab techs choose to combine the number of fields they do. A medical lab technician who works at a hospital can do different tasks in different fields and these techs will make more money than a tech that only does one thing.

Work environment and hours usually depend on the employer. There are jobs available for techs that prefer to work day, evening, or night shifts. A lab tech can expect to be on call overnight, weekends, and holidays.

The United States economy is definitely in a slump right now, so choosing a career path that will allow you to know that you will have a job for years to come, is a big decision and should not be taken lightly. If you stop and meditate on what career filled will always have a need for more employees, would you not come up with the medical field?

The medical field or industry is always looking for new technicians to join the ranks to work alongside doctors, dentists and surgeons. Some of these technical fields that need new workers consist of a MRI, Radiology or x-ray technician field. What are some of the advantages of pursuing a career such as an MRI technician? For starters, schooling is quick and to the point allowing you to get in and get your degree in as little as two years. Once you have graduated, you can expect a nice salary even for one who has just come straight from college.

Many trade schools offer courses in the medical field, also offer job placement programs that work alongside students to help them find jobs quickly after graduation. Many times, even if a school you are attending does not offer a job placement program, they often have ties with the medical field in that area and are more than likely able to connect you with someone who can help you find a job. As a technician, you can expect to an average mri tech salary of up to $60,000 per year or more, depending on your experience level, cooling and your physical location along with your job location.

It is important to make sure that you attend an accredited college or trade school, whether it be a community college or traditional university. It is important that the school you attend is accredited by the state because your employer will be looking closely at your resume to make sure that you were trained correctly by an accredited school. With a degree you will be using magnetic resonance imaging on a daily basis as part of your job description. This allows you to send radio waves through the human body to see not only soft but hard body organs, tissue or bones.

If you’re considering going back to school, keep in mind pursuing a career in the medical field. It ensures that you will have a job for years to come along with a nice salary. The medical field is not limited to that of MRI technology or an x-ray technician, there are many directions in which you can take a medical degree. With extensive research and a little time, you’ll likely find a job that will suit you personally and the medical industry.

Learning a skill that can be used to earn a living in a short period of time can be beneficial for your future and that of your family. Why attend a college or university for a program that will take on average 3 to 4 years to complete when you could attend a local community college or trade school with courses to get your career jump started in less than 2 years?

Trade or vocational schools are ever growing in popularity because of the simple fact that they are straight forward and to the point. There is no wasted time when you are learning a skill over an academic degree where you learn countless amounts of general information that may be useless to the job you are seeking. If you take the time and put forward the effort to locate a school that teaches a fine skill like a respiratory therapist course, you will be surprised that chances are there is a college or school close by you that offers that exact course.

In and out of school in less than 2 years and you are off to the races making a good living (the average respiratory therapist technician salary is around $45,000 per year) either as a certified therapist or a registered therapist. True you will need some basic schooling like that of physics, mathematics and microbiology, but the courses are tailor made for what you will need to know on your actual job throughout your career. There is a huge demand for those with the skills of a registered respiratory therapist so consider your options to see if you can manage the time to enroll yourself in a trade or community school close to home. The success rate of someone who goes to school from home, as apposed to someone who moves cross country to finish school is much higher. Do your best to stay in your natural life cycle or try to stay in your normal realm to increase your chances of success. Get started today!
